MS Birkeland was docked at Rubbestadneset and it was time for a service on both the high- and low-frequency sonars.

We recommend taking a service on the sonar every 5 years, a sonar service involves:

• Inspection of the equipment
• Oil change and dome cleaning
• Replacement of gaskets, wear parts etc
• Possible software upgrade

Due to low clearance in the dock, we had to disassemble the low frequency and take the oil change indoors. With more clearance, we can do this job faster down in the dock without dismantling the entire bottom gear. But such a sonar service can also be done at sea with a diver, if you have enough clearance to lift the bottom gear inside
